BlackBerry to Provide Some Extra Options to Port Android Apps

In the month of October, the company has declared about the availability of the second iteration of their Android development tools that can be used to port android applications to the BlackBerry 10 platform.

With this release, the company introduced the BlackBerry ADB proxy Manager that lets users connect a BlackBerry 10 device or simulator to any IDE and run/debug an Android app just as on any Android device.

Moreover, this release of extra options added some GUI options for the well-known command-line arguments that allow developers repackage, verify and sign an APK file with some simple and few clicks.

The company has added executable shortcuts for the GUI tools in this new 2.0.2 beta by which developers do have the need to start them from within a command-prompt. For android apps, this new beta 2.0.2 command-line tool can be downloaded anywhere and extracted without any hassle on Mac as well as Windows. In the near future, the support for Linux will be added.

Furthermore, the new release of beta also comes with the support for Google’s Android Studio IDE. Along with it, the company also released an alpha plug-in that lets android developers to target all the BlackBerry 10 devices. Currently, this plug-in is being offered as an offline archive obtainable for download.

For Eclipse, which has been updated to reflect the 2.0.2 update to their android tool chain, the company will continue to provide its support for the ADT plug-in. All the Android developers can checkout the BlackBerry tools page to download or upgrade to the new beta release.
